Last year we ran the First Annual Exhibition in conjunction with an Art Competition at Cradley Village Hall. We have decided to alternate the Exhibitions round the three villages. The Second Anniversary Exhibition of Cradley, Mathon & Storridge Art Group took place this year at Mathon Parish Hall on 23rd October. Next year will be Storridge’s turn.

We also decided that we would try to use the occasion to provide a day’s entertainment for the community and raise some money for each village hall.

And we can say without exaggeration that the Group came up trumps. Last year 18 artists showed 74 paintings: this year, 20 artists showed 65 paintings. And the quality of the work was noticeably better. We are simply getting good at our work! The two-monthly sessions and Ros’ help has been worthwhile and it shows!

There were other stalls. John Harrison brought a number of his carvings and attracted a crowd who watched with interest him carving. There was a Christmas Stall and Cards by Jacqueline Dee and Lucille Forbes Keir was selling her decoupage.

John Drummond with great skill and no little effort, photographed nearly all of the exhibits and they are shown below. Thank you John for the time and trouble you took.

And the Fund raising? Well, thanks to magnificent work by Margaret Ainscough and her terrific team, there was coffee and biscuits available all morning, hot soup and a ploughman’s for lunch and cream teas until 4 pm! There was a continuous buzz from happy village people all day, enjoying time out away from the ghastly weather. As a result of money from refreshments and commission from sales of pictures and other items, some £363 was raised for Mathon Parish Hall Improvement Fund.

Well Done! See you at Storridge.
