October Meeting of Cradley Parish Council

Village Design Statement. At an additional meeting in September, we agreed to adopt the Village Design Statement. It will be considered by Herefordshire Council at the end of November, leading towards its adoption as Supplementary Planning Guidance for developments within the parish.

The Parish Plan was also approved and will now be submitted to the Countryside Agency and Herefordshire Council for their final approval. More on this in the future.

At the end of October, several councillors will be attending a session on Quality Councils and a Funding Fair organised by the Herefordshire Partnership. We shall be looking for every opportunity to draw funds into the Parish from outside sources.

Broadband. Mr Edgar volunteered to be our lead representative on bringing Broadband to Cradley. If you wish to support this venture please access Herefordshire Council’s website on www.herefordshire.gov.uk where they are currently running a campaign.

Model Publication Scheme We have now signed up to this scheme required under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. We have yet to discuss just how to make it work for us but it will give everyone in the Parish readier access to council information.

The Lengthsman working party reported that advertisements for both the Lengthsman and the Supervisor would be issued early in the New Year. For our Supervisor we are looking for someone who has a real interest in the lanes of our Parish. Do you know anybody who might fit the bill?

Vinesend Lane may at last be on a programme for road repairs. Our steady flow of letters may be bearing fruit.

At public question time Mrs Hurle raised a concern at the cost to the Parish of the extra work that has been undertaken by our Clerk. Mr Creed-Newton in his reply outlined some of the steps we had been taking during the summer to bring us up to Quality Parish status: Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and the Model Publications Scheme, all of which head brought extra work. He echoed Mrs Hurle’s sadness at the loss of the Clerk to the Council. Mr Bond and Mrs Prosser enquired as to progress following the traffic open meeting in June. The Council readily agreed to chase up for the promised response from Herefordshire Council.

Fire hydrants: do you know where your nearest one is? Following the experience of the recent Village Hall fire, the Council agreed to make enquiries to establish who is responsible and how these responsibilities are applied to fire hydrant maintenance and renewal across the Parish.

The Agenda for Parish Council meetings is displayed at Finchers Corner, the Butchers, the Post Office and on the notice board at Storridge Village Hall at least 3 clear days before each meeting. Copies of the minutes for the last 2 years are held at Cradley Post Office. Mr Creed-Newton, Chairman of the Parish Council, can be contacted on 01886 880534
