NEWS FROM CRADLEY YOUTH GROUP
Cradley Youth Group News - May and June 2006
The slide and roundabout at the Chapel Lane playing field were a major hit! We met there during the one warm week in May. We were supposed to play rounders and cricket but most preferred to see how many people could get on to the slide and roundabout at once.
The next week some of the Youth Group dug out the weeds from a small area in front of the Scout Hall and planted foxgloves, lemon balm and an aquilegia given by Daisy’s mum (thanks Katrina) and some sun flowers seeds and nasturtiums seeds. There’s a bit of a competition to see which sunflower will grow the tallest.
On Saturday 20th May we had our bring and buy sale/flea market. We made £203.71 which is excellent considering the number of people who came to buy. Many thanks to those who gave items for the raffle, tombola and for sale, and many thanks to those who came to buy on the day. We would like more support from parents, please, next time we have a fund raising do. Special thanks to Kath Munrowd and Rosie Berry for their hard work.
Scott, James, and Suzanna have been helping at Cradley School garden club. Lots of energy and strength is needed to do all the hard landscaping.
Dry weather at last and we held a barbecue at Buryfields playing field one Thursday evening.
Everyone is welcome to come to a Disco on Saturday, 8th July at the British Legion from 8.00 p.m. onwards. There will be a raffle to raise funds.

Report dated 8 March 2006, 13 Youth Group members sawed through overhanging branches and cut down ivy in an attempt to clear the footpath by the stream opposite the Post Office.
It was a freezing cold, sunny Saturday morning - the last in February, but everyone, even the dog, seemed happy wading in the stream, pulling the cut branches up to a space near the road and a big difference has definitely been made down there. Many thanks to Mr Bannister, Josh and George’s Dad for coming with his saw and manpower and thanks to Steve from Netherley for taking the branches away.Pictures from Judi CN:-
If you know of a village project which you think that the Youth Group might like to be involved in, please let us know.
We now have an average of 15 coming to the Group aged between 8 and 15 and we would like YOUR HELP in running the Youth Group, especially if you have new ideas and can give the regular helpers a break! It’s good fun.
We meet at the Scout Hall on Thursday evenings 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. Please come and see us there or telephone Rose Berry on 01886 880638
June Nason on 01886 880804 or Barbara Thomas on 01886 880686.
In December 4 Youth workers from Herefordshire County Council came to see us. They came to meet our group members and helpers, to see the building we meet in and generally to give us support. We played a game with them where we asked each other questions about our favourite places, favourite food, etc. and completed questionnaires to establish what we like doing best and what we would like to do at Youth group in the future.
That night we also took delivery of an air hockey game and a table football game, both of which were in kit form and took a lot of sorting out to put together!!
On 22nd December we had a Christmas party which went really well. 16 group members came and joined in enthusiastically in the team games, musical chairs, and of course the tea. Many thanks to the parents who provided sandwiches, cakes and jellies. Many thanks also to Rosie, Youth Group Leader, for organising the party and to helpers - June, Marc, Cath and Barbara.
On 5th January we had a visitor, Sue, from Ledbury Youth First. She wondered whether any members wanted to join the Herefordshire Youth Council to make their thoughts and opinions known and hopefully make a difference in the way Herefordshire plans for young people. Two of our youth group may be going to these meetings.
The Parish Council has kindly given us £100 out of the winnings from the Village of the Year competition which will be spent on putting in shrubs and plants in front of the Scout Hall. Thank you Parish Council.
If you would like to come to the Youth Group, we meet on Thursday evenings - 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. in the Scout Hall or you can phone Rosie B on 638, June N on 804 or Barbara T on 686.

Our Halloween 2005 Disco was a great success. We had fantastic witches, weird wizards, very scary ghouls, ghosts and vampire bats and some small pumpkins. A great deal of effort had gone into making the costumes and it was obvious that those who wore them really enjoyed themselves.
Prizes were won in the under 5 age group by Tyler R. (first), and Davina R. (Runner up).
And in the 5 - 15 age group by Bethany F. (First) and Josh B. (Runner up)
Also lots of top prizes were won in the raffle and tombola. Many thanks to those of you who gave prizes and bought tickets. We made £165 towards Youth Group funds. Nearly everyone joined in the disco dancing which didn’t end ‘til almost the witching hour.
Our Youth Group meet every Thursday from 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. in the Scout Hall and if you would like to come and find out more about us you are very welcome.
Youth Group helpers are to go on a training course on Saturday, 3rd December from 9.30 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. in Ledbury, and if you would like to join us please contact Rosie B.

During the summer of 2005 Cradley Youth group has met on Mondays and Wednesdays for karaoke, table tennis, billiards and other games. We have had two barbecues, one held in the playing field by Buryfields where we had a really good rounders match, followed by races and the other was held at the back of the Scout hall.
We also held a flea market on August 27th where we raised £325. Many thanks to parents and everyone who supported us there.
The Parish Council are going to give the Youth Group £300 and will match fund us up to £700. This will mean we can buy more equipment and sophisticated games for the group to enjoy.
During school term times we meet once a week on Thursdays 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. in the Scout Hall. The age range of our group is 8 - 15 and at present we have 25 registered members.
