Week 17th October to 02 November 2009

REMEMBER -   DON’T BE ALARMED - BE AWARE !

Bishops Frome

A white van bearing the registration GN57 *OC has been reported as being seen in suspicious circumstances in the area.

Coddington

A white Ford van, registration number S119 **H, was seen in Coddington on 23rd October with the driver, described as ‘scruffy and overweight’, acting in a suspicious manner. You will have received a separate NHW Alert on this one.

Cradley

A quantity of saddlery was stolen from an equestrian centre near Ridgeway Cross, Cradley over the night of Friday/Saturday 23rd/24th October after the locks to a wooden building were unscrewed.  Nothing was heard or seen.

On Saturday morning of 24th October the owner of a trading estate on Ridgeway Cross, reported an attempt to steal their ride-on mower when they found it abandoned with the cutting discs removed.  Persons unknown removed the mower from a shed where it was stored and attempted (unsuccessfully) to remove it from the site.  The following day, Sunday 25th a Green Apollo Mountain Bike was found to be missing from the site, and may be connected to the arrival of the intruders.

The residents also report a further suspicious incident on site of the evening of Tuesday 27th October, when a yellow transit van – Reg: P274L-J with ‘Garden Services’ written on the side, was noticed on site late at night. The occupants were seen and challenged and left the site at speed.  A timely report from the residents meant that this vehicle was stopped by Police en route and details of the occupants taken.  Well done to that NHW’er who had his wits about him! A very useful piece of information.

A Genie Compact Tele Handler Forklift, blue and grey in colour – Reg: VX08RWN – was removed by persons unknown from where it was stored at the rear of the property and out of view in the Stoney Cross area, between Monday 26th October and Saturday 31st October.  The word ‘Genie’ in white stick-on decals can be seen on the mast of the forklift.  The vehicle can be driven or loaded onto a small vehicle. Have you seen anything suspicious in terms of vehicles or individuals on foot?  If so please let the Police know.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH MEETING - CRADLEY

A meeting to set up another ‘branch’ of the Cradley NHW group is to be held on Thursday

19th November at 6.30 pm, at the Red Lion Public House.  It is essential to include everyone into the information loop between the community and the Police, so please let your neighbours know and we’ll see you on the night for Crime Prevention advice and guidance.

Evesbatch

Local residents report a number of suspicious vehicles in the Evesbatch area over the past week, including a number of unfamiliar trucks.  One resident returned home to find their heavy sliding door to their garden had been pushed wide open and another door which had been left open had been shut by persons unknown.   Another property had an alarm activation at 3.00am despite the property being empty.  Investigation by neighbours did not reveal anyone on the premises, but it was felt by those present that this was not a false activation.

Please be vigilant now and report anything suspicious to the Police on 0300 333 3000.  There is a move now to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Group in Evesbatch.  If you are interested please contact your Community Support Officer Paul Smith or your Local Policing Team generally on the Voicemail No. of 01432 346759.

Woolhope

An electric fence, battery, fencing reel and stakes were stolen from a field in the Wessington Lane area between 0930 on 24th October and 0900 hrs the following day.

General Information

Bonfire night is just around the corner; please keep an eye on pets, especially those who live outdoors, to ensure they are safe and sheltered from the noise of fireworks. You may also find it worth a chat with your Vet for advice regarding mild tranquilisers for those animals who really suffer with stress from the loud noise from fireworks.

BOGUS CALLERS

We have had a report of a male posing as a Gas Board official in Newport, when he knocked on a door asking to read the persons Gas meter.  Unluckily for the offender, the house visited doesn’t have a gas meter and the resident called in to report to the Police.  The male is described as white, with quite pitted skin, 40-50 years of age, short dark brown hair, approx 5ft 7in, wearing a red Polo shirt and blue jeans.  This might seem a long way from our Local Policing areas, but we know from experience that these individuals will travel over a wide area looking for targets, so please keep an eye for this sort of practice and for the male described.  The usual cautionary message applies.  Do not let anyone in without an official ID.  If you’re not sure about them – WHEN IN DOUBT – KEEP THEM OUT!

SMARTWATER

Smartwater Property ID Marking Kits are available from your Local Policing Team at Ledbury Police Station for the price of £20.00.  If you are interested please contact us on the number below or email us, to place your order.
