Cradley and Storridge Village Design Statement
A Village Design Statement aims to ensure that future developments and changes are based on an understanding of a village’s special character. It also provides design guidance, which will be of importance to householders, planners, developers, builders and other public bodies.
Village Design Statements (VDS’s) encourage local people to make an assessment of local character based on their own knowledge and perception of the village and its surroundings.
The VDS will relate to the built up area of the villages and the rural area forming the immediate setting. The aim of the VDS will be to describe Cradley and Storridge as they are today and to highlight the qualities of the settlements in an effort to define their local distinctiveness.
Community participation is essential. This participation is used to draw together a VDS that identifies, describes and illustrates the local character that is valued by the community.
The Cradley and Storridge VDS will be prepared by people from the area supported and approved by the Parish Council.
The aim of the meeting advertised is to give people the information they need so that they can contribute to the statement. We aim to set up working parties so that interested people can make their contributions.
Officers of Herefordshire Council’s Planning Department will be able to assist the VDS Group in the preparation of the document. This assistance is to ensure that the VDS conforms with existing development plan policies and has sufficient detail to be used as a significant factor in the assessment of planning applications and will also help at pre-application stages.
